Any good videos on what really moves the market?

Main Post:

So many people seem to think they know what moves the market. I am skeptical. Even when I hear longtime daytraders talk. They’ll say things that on one hand will indicate that retail traders can’t move price, then on the other hand they’ll say something happened due to retail traders moving price. Or they’ll say things like “whales don’t use stops, only retail uses stops“ but then also say things like “they’re hunting stops“, but I don’t understand what the point of that would be if our stops make up such a tiny fraction of the market intraday. Has anyone ever come across a video that really lays it out plainly? How many shares and contracts get processed every hour, what hours of the day the book tends to thin out and retail traders are just playing against each other... etc. it just seems like sometimes we’re swimming in an ocean of market makers, and other times it seems like we’re just gambling against each other.

Top Comment: Commenting to specifically reply to the "whales don't use stops" part. It's because they can't, as their positions are too large to use stops. If you have a gigantic position in an instrument, getting stopped out (market order) would take out so many price levels in the order book that other traders and algos will see and jump on the momentum train, causing an even further spike in price. While smaller traders scalp this, they'll be out of their position before the whale's position has even had a chance to liquidate, therefore making their average exit price even worse. Basically, whales are forced to used hedges to manage risk as that's their only viable option. As for the "hunting stops", maybe sometimes but it's nowhere near as prevalent as the snake oil salesmen make it seem. Regarding videos that explain what makes markets move, this one by John Grady is excellent: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iWwxMokC0F8&list=PL7v7PuIHllzQ0_-Rr8MnrWIr_o82N7wGe&index=1&pp=iAQB

Very good video explaining different market manipulation tactics

Main Post:

Very good video explaining market manipulation.

Video was made 6 years ago but it still applies today.

Explains some of the ways market makers use to push prices in their favour.

To be a successful trader you must understand the enemy. If you fully understand them, you can make very smart choices instead of choosing with your emotions.

Biggest mistake the average investor makes is basing their decisions on price movements. For example, price moves up, they feel good, they base their decisions on that.

Price action is different, price action is when you look at how the price is acting. For example, retails pumping on good news, but price is being held down when it should be mooning, indicating most likely whales are dumping into retail. Using that information can be useful when in conjunction with other information to verify it is true.

Think like a whale to win.

Tienen pésimas prácticas de higiene, elaboran con cosas que ya no están aptas para la venta, y remarcan los vencimientos.

The Christmas Market Incident of Magdeburg, Germany (Dec 21, 2024)

Main Post: The Christmas Market Incident of Magdeburg, Germany (Dec 21, 2024)

Top Comment:

On December 21, 2024 there has been a horrible incident at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. Reports are still being updated and changed, but currently at least 2 have been killed and 60-80 more have been injured when one or multiple vehicles ploughed through festivegoers at a market in the town of Magdeburg, Germany. Video footage shows the car driving through the crowd, as well as people being tended to. I have also included video of the arrest, and a short video showing the tranquility of the market before the senseless act of horror.

...................................................
This is new and will have many false claims. It is reported that the perpetrator is likely a doctor from Saudi Arabia. Names have been said, and I’ve seen the death toll as high as 15. These are likely to be false or greatly exaggerated claims. I will keep an eye on this story and update as needed.

UPDATE: now that more information has released; the death toll is now 6 people, with about 300 people injured in the attack.
